Diana Spencer’s marriage to King Charles was one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the 1980s and the wedding photo of the pair continues to circulate to this day as Diana looks completely in love with her man.

The wedding at St Paul’s Cathedral, in London, took place in front of 3,500 guests and the 1981 date went on to be viewed by 750m people from 74 nations around the world as it was affectionately dubbed, “the marriage of the century

“I remember being so in love with my husband that I couldn’t take my eyes off him,” Diana told writer Andrew Morton of the photo. “I just absolutely thought I was the luckiest girl in the world. He was going to look after me.”

The photo in question is the moment the pair walked out of the cathedral together with the 31-year-old Charles looking dashing in his military uniform whilst Diana looks at him with a personal smile in her pure white dress as she carries a bouquet of white flowers

But few could have predicted how sour things would become between the royal couple, who parented Prince William in 1982 and Prince Harry in 1985, as their union ended in a bitter divorce that divides fans to this very moment.

Diana then met her tragic death in 1996 in France, whilst Prince Charles, now King, went on to marry Camilla Parker-Bowles in 2005 and now she reigns as Queen Consort in the position many felt belonged to his first wife.

Camilla always appears to have been the King’s true love, but many will tell you that didn’t excuse his conduct towards Diana which included a heart-breaking put down on the eve of their marriage.
