Adele is smack dab in the middle of her ongoing Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas, which has now been wowing fans for well over a year. The singer speaks to the crowd during each show, and at a recent concert, she admitted something that had fans nearly booing her from their seats.

At one of her most recent shows, Adele updated the crowd about her plans for making more music…or lack thereof, to be more accurate. “I just don’t think I’m gonna write an album for quite some time,” Adele said, according to videos shared by those in the audience. The statement, which was uttered fairly casually, was met with vocal sadness from the thousands in attendance.

Adele last released an album in November 2021, when she dropped 30. The set became an instant blockbuster all around the world, selling millions of copies upon its arrival. The title hit No. 1 in almost every nation, which is now par for the course for the singer.

While nobody is thrilled to hear that Adele isn’t working on new music–and has no plans to do so–the news isn’t shocking. The superstar waited six years between 30 and its predecessor, 25. Just four years passed between 25 and the title that came before, 21. It’s only been three years since 30 arrived, so it’s not shocking that she’s not yet in the studio again.

“I’ll come to wherever it is you live,” Adele promised the crowd, regarding touring her next album. That statement was met with applause, especially since it had been preceded by downer news. Adele launched her Las Vegas residency in large part because she has stated in the past that she doesn’t love touring. She wanted to be close to her young son, so performing in Sin City on the weekends worked brilliantly for her.

Weekends With Adele started in November 2022, and it was an immediate critical and commercial success. The residency sells out months in advance, and the singer has added to her initial planned run of shows several times. Currently, she has dates scheduled into this coming June.
