Taylor Swift gets dismissed by Eagles star during Super Bowl opening night leaving Travis Kelce quiet… see more
Super Bowl 59 is right around the corner.
Yesterday, during Super Bowl LIX Opening Night, we heard players from both teams answer questions ahead of the biggest game of the season, where we could witness an unprecedented moment if the Chiefs emerge victorious and secure the first three-peat in NFL history.
The Chiefs have already gone further than the other eight teams that have won back-to-back championships, as none of them reached the Super Bowl in their three-peat attempts.
In addition, Patrick Mahomes Travis Kelce Chris Jones and Harrison Butker will be playing in their fifth Super Bowl in the last six years, making them familiar with the stage and the backbone of the team.
Not Everyone Knows Taylor Swift’s Music
Perhaps the three biggest differences from when the Chiefs defeated the Eagles 38-35 in Super Bowl 57 two years ago are: Saquon Barkley is now with the Eagles, the Chiefs’ motivation to play in their third consecutive Super Bowl, and the fact that “Swiftiemania” had not yet reached the NFL, as Travis Kelce was not dating Taylor Swift at the time.
Every single NFL fan and player has heard something about the relationship of Swift and Kelce, but that doesn’t mean they know her music.
A clear example of this happened last night with Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert, who couldn’t help but take a jab at his competition when asked about his favorite Swift song: “She’s an incredible artist, but she’s not on my playlist.”
It should come as no surprise that Goedert, 30, doesn’t listen to Taylor.
Not that her music isn’t for people his age, but let’s be honest – most NFL players probably don’t have Swift in their rotation.
He later added that he listens to Kendrick Lamar, who will perform at the halftime show.
However, Kendrick has a song (“Bad Blood”) with Swift, so maybe Goedert has heard that one.
After the Taylor-related question, Dallas took the opportunity to praise Kelce’s work on the field and his strengths: “He’s spent so much time trying to figure out the hot spots of the zones, he does everything well.”
Goedert joined the Eagles the season after they won their first Super Bowl, and was the 49th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
He had six receptions for 60 yards in the Super Bowl two years ago, while Travis had six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown.
So if you’re into betting, a parlay of both tight ends with five receptions and 50+ yards could be a solid investment.
Goedert missed nearly half the season due to injury, resulting in his worst statistical year in yards, receptions and touchdowns since his rookie season, but of course he’s ready to help his team come Sunday.
Familiar Faces in the Super Bowl
This will be the ninth Super Bowl rematch and the second time both teams will face the same opponent in the big game.
The Chiefs beat the 49ers last year and again in 2019, while the Eagles lost to the Patriots in 2004 but got their revenge in 2017 – will they do the same against the Chiefs?
To illustrate just how successful these two franchises have been in recent years, the Chiefs (52 wins) and Eagles (49 wins) are the two winningest teams in the NFL since 2021.
The difference? The Chiefs have capitalized on their success, making it to four Super Bowls in that span.
This will undoubtedly be a close game, just like the last three Super Bowls, all of which were decided by three points.
